Osteopathy & Foot Orthotics

Osteopathy Manual Practice evaluates connective tissue disorders, which include injuries of the musculo-skeletal, circulatory and nervous systems, treatment is carried out by the use of connective tissue manipulation, therapeutic and rehabilitative exercise, postural and nutritional counseling, and the use of the effective properties of mobilization of soft tissue for the purpose correcting, alleviating or preventing a physical disability.

Osteopaths work by decompressing structure and tissue restrictions, thereby releasing body structures enhancing the body's ability to heal and restore total function. A consultation involves manual examination of the body to assess the flow of fluids, tissue dysfunction, bone compression, joint mobility, and related affected tissue, then treatment mobilizes the affected area to release the injury pattern.

Developed by Dr. Andrew Taylor Still, MD; Osteopathy is the study of structure and suffering and how they relate to each other. Osteopaths assist with a host of common medical problems that appeared resistant to main-stream health care.

  • To restrict movement in a given direction

  • To assist movement generally

  • To reduce weight bearing forces for a particular purpose

  • To aid rehabilitation from fractures after the removal of a cast

  • To otherwise correct the function of the limb, to provide easier movement capability or reduce pain.

  • Patients that have suffered a stroke, spinal cord injury, and a congenital abnormality like spina bifida or cerebral palsy, diabetes or sports injuries can benefit from foot orthotics.

Often an Osteopath is able to assess lower-limb anatomy and biomechanics, they may specialize in design, fit and modification of foot orthotics  which can help foot abnormalities, alleviate pain, help debilitating conditions of the lower limbs and feet that; if left untreated could result in limited mobility and constant foot pain.
